Math Unit Plan
I developed this second grade math unit to build a foundation in place value early in the year. It is aligned to the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics.
Standards-Based Math Assessment
I created this assessment to align with the second grade place value unit above. The students took it both as a pre-assessment and post-assessment.
End of Unit Reflection
At the end of this place value unit, students reviewed their pre- and post-assessments and reflected on their progress.
Cross-Curricular Unit Plan
I developed this unit for first and second graders in collaboration with my teaching team while at Anser Charter School, an Expeditionary Learning (EL) school. At EL schools, all science, social studies, and literacy is taught through learning expeditions. This expedition combined science content on plants and butterflies with literacy skills in nonfiction reading and writing. Every student created a high-quality book about butterflies and a scientific diagram of a flower. The expedition culminated with a service learning project in which students created a butterfly garden for the school.
Writing Self-Assessment Checklists
At the end of each writing unit, my students publish one of their best pieces of writing. I developed these checklists for third graders based on our school’s writing rubrics and classroom lessons to help the students evaluate their progress and revise their work.
After a conference with my principal, she evaluated my skills specific to planning and preparing for student learning.
